Ode to flowers

Snying-rje-po beings decorating the air we breath. Last weekend I managed to finish the flower bolero. This time I followed the indications given from the beginning till the end (but those about the colours and the kind of yarn). I used some acrylic perlé yarn in black (no idea about whether there’s a name for perlé in English) (number 5 or 8, it didn’t say anything, but I worked with a crochet hook of 1,6mm, number 4). I also used some silver colour thread which I combined with the black yarn. Cost: 2.75 euros only but many hours making flowers, putting them together and so on. It's not a very useful bolero: very short, not very warm, but i like it and it's a good option for those days when sleeveless t-shirts are not enough (due to cool temperatures) and long sleeved t-shirts are too much.

Undefined creature

The pink thing. I crocheted this amigurumi for a friend. I began to crochet it not knowing what kind of creature I’d end up having, but an eared-thing....But even at the end I didn’t know what it was...And I can’t define the big-eared pink amigurumi yet. Unbestimmtek could be a suitable name for it. Maybe the friend I gave this amigurumi to gave a name to it.

Crocheting granny squares!. The idea I had in the beginning was to make a scarf...but then I thought that it would be better to make the scarf of a plain colour and save the granny squares for some coming idea...for some other project (maybe a bag, maybe some afghan...).

I used 4 different colours and 3 different qualities of wool. I already had black and dark violet wook (Gacela, Alvelana. S.L, see post about the genesis of a bolero) but I had to buy the other 2 colours. In early September I went to Lanas el globo with Dudu-sama (Dudu Jae-dong, now going through his Korean Experience), knowing that there I could find something interesting. This friend agreed to come with me as it was something somehow freak to him and brought back memories to him. So....in that shop (I recommend it) I found the light violet (pinkish violet) wool (Eton, Ornaghi filati, colour 742, 50 gr., 125 mts., 50% new wool, 50% acrylic) and the light blue-cyan yarn (Lli’87, Labores P.P., colour 101, 50 gr. 100 mts., 70% linen, 30% fibrana). I can make many colour combinations...There’s always some part of mathematics hidden behind crochet works, as well as some numerical perfection.

aMiGuRuMi: the invaders

Yes! one day i discovered that there were some kind of crocheted creatures called あみぐるみ...very popular in Japan, and thus, easily exportable, globalisable....And after observing such creatures and noticing that I knew the way to crochet them I decided to make one. The result was Ninjin-chan. I plan to make some kind of octopus like one I saw (well, I’ll make my version, as usually) and some pintinho: the future Lemonade Joe (pepitu llimonada...paying homage to a Czechoslovakian western from the mid 60es...which I have, but in Czech....) and Darth Pintinho/Pisklatko. By the way...Ninjin-chan has a safety pin behind the head...This way I can pin it on my clothes (it's really useful...).

Winter winter

People buy yarn and wool in late summer so as to get all knitted or crocheted items ready for autumn and winter (it's a pseudo-scientific truth). It feels quite odd to be surrounded by wool when it’s still quite hot (unless you manage to control your mind to avoid sensations and succeed in feeling it's not hot). For this winter I thought that I needed some kind of hat...it was quite cold when I ended the classes in Barcelona and took a train back to my city. At almost 11 at night it was cold when I stepped out of the train and had to walk back home. I don’t like to wear hats, or whatever wearable on the head...but maybe, wearing something I made, doesn’t feel that uncomfortable. Green hat - green ideas. For the hat I used Katia austral, colour 26 (50% wool, 50% acrylic, the dark violet wool I used for the bolero)...and some green for the flower (see post about he cell phone cases), I bought the dark green wool at Merceria Santa Ana (but it’s not difficult to find Katia yarn and wool). I began to crochet the hat as I watched (well, listened and sometimes watched) a chapter of some documentary series on Tibet. Several monks making a mandala there, at the other side. And in front of the screen there was me, crocheting. Circles, geometry. Several do and re-do, forward, backward, forward...because I wasn’t following any schema...and I just had my intuition to know when to reduce the diameter and get something to fit the head ( i didn't want to end up having a pseudo-sphere instead of a semi-sphere= hat).

genesis of a bolero

First, the idea, then, the idea of the colour; green (obviously, in my case). I had some instructions to do the bolero, but due to the kind of yarn I found (banana fibre silk, produced in Nepal, bought at Persones Llanes) and due to the confusion caused by inches, numbers that could be chain stitches or inches, I decided to make the bolero following my intuition and the size of a cotton fabric bolero I have. I ran out of green yarn (ooh) when I finished making the sleeves (they had to be short)...then I continued with dark violet (Gacela, Alvelana S.L., 100% acrylic, colour 87).

And I liked the result...but I’ll have to wait for lower temperatures. I had never made any kind of jacket or so before...but scarves, several bags, some potholders, pencil cases, coin purses, unclassified stuff. I was not very confident about getting a nice result...but patience and willingness to improve one's skills did a lot. I didn't use complicated stitches, basically because it was not very easy to work with the green yarn. For the part in dark violet I chose some combination of stitches that creates some kind of star pattern. Result: snying.rje.po bolero! (at least I like it)

By the way..the quality of the last picture of me wearing the bolero is not very high...there are stains on the door, on me... :( on dark areas in the picture...

cell-phone-soft-armour

The first-first things i created these summer days, besides crocheted flowers (I already made some flowers last autumn and winter), were 2 cell phone cases...the blue, for a friend (a birthday present) and a green one, the one with a pink flower, for me. Easy works with a beautiful and inexpensive kind of wool (Caricia buccolo, servimex, colours 11 and 47...about the pink flower...no idea since I made it using some old wool I found at home). They are simple cases but they are indeed useful...and that's what matters. Now it's harder to get the cell phone lost inside my bag...just reach for something soft with something that must be a flower and there's the cell phone.

Immersed. Swimming across seas of colours and different textures of yarn and wool. There I am crocheting. On my first blog (main blog) http://sumireneko.blogspot.com I already wrote the reasons of my recent immersion, after a long time having forgotten about crocheting. But why a blog to tell about the things I create? I want to share the images of different colours and shapes. I like having a look at those works other have made and we all end up learning from each other.

Beauty lies also in odd combinations; in creations where the self vanishes...sometimes it feels as if the one who creates the shapes and chooses the colours belongs to some other inexistent place.
