Mike Wazowski....yarn version (crocheted)

I went to watch Monsters University last Saturday with Marcel and we really enjoyed the  movie (original version, by the way, which is pretty rare when it comes to animation movies). After having a look at yarns I had at home (left overs), I felt like I could crochet one of the characters I really liked: Wazowski!! I prepared all "ingredients" yesterday and today I made it.

The mouth is made with black yarn. I attached a pin so as to make it a brooch.

GREEN (of course) MOUSTACHED-CASE!

Why did moustaches become sort of trendy and can be even seen printed on all kinds of items??  After crocheting a moustache and sewing a pin to it (moustache brooch), I decided to go for a knitted sunglasses’ case to give as a present. And so did I.

I used 3,5mm knitting needles and a 1,6 mm crochet needle, green yarn (acrylic), black yarn (acrylic as well)....and a button I randomly found at home....ah..and time and lots of love to “manufacture” the case.

Mathematics and geometry within crochet works makes beauty possible.

I plan to crochet some sort of afghan made of this kind of "wheels". i'm using a num. 6 crochet hook (the odd gauge of older Dama-brand crochet hooks I had at home).

In the image just a few "wheels" are sewn together....others are just tied with pins.

 

COLOURFUL PIGLET

Some years ago I gave a try to amigurumi (crocheting)...but I was reluctant to knit creatures. It's indeed more complicated but the result is really worth it. I followed the instructions to knit a piglet, which I thought would be smaller, and here it is. However, it's still eyeless and has no snout holes yet. It looks blueish in the images but it's rather purple-dark violet.

There was some yarn left from the dark-green jacket/long shrug and I decided to give a chance to some knitting pattern I had come across. I also used some lighter green yarn I found at home (there was a little left from some old project).

This time I'm using 4mm knitting needles.

furry yellow creatures

I recently (1st Seept 2011) bought some yellow mohair yarn (mohair and acryllic, in fact)....and the plan is to knit a soooooft, looooose and hairy sweater using 6mm-gauge knitting needles.

I got 4 skeins (50 gr. each)....Enough, or more that enough when it comes to knitting. Besides I don't plan to knit long sleeves.

The outcome, up to now, is quite nice.

Some projects I won't finish since I got better ideas for the yarn and colours being used..The granny squares will become something knitted and the green yarn will become something not that lacy...

wednesday rose

Wednesday came and I finished a knitted rose (the leaves are from squared pieces of cloth I had bought a long time ago). Again I used some old yarn (I undid some crocheted granny squares).

I found the pattern in a Clarín Tejido magazine (2011) but, as usually, I didn't follow the instructions exactly....

I used 4 mm needles (instead of 6mm)....and I didn't use any felting technique.

1. cast on 70 st. and knit 10 rows
2. decrease twice 6 stitches right and left
3. decrease twice 4 stitches right and left
4. finish!
5. curl up...sew and attach (sewing) the leaves
6. sew some pin or clip to turn the knitted rose into a lapel pin...or hair clip/pin
   

SOFA BLUES

Yet another blanket....this time a knitted one instead of a crocheted one. I didn't have any plan about knitting blankets or plaids...but having found yarn left-overs (small and big yarn balls, single yarn balls, all forgotten after having finished projects a long time ago and knowing there's no chance to find more of the same yarn) -woman meets yarn- I began to think about options and ideas.

The decorative circles and the rim were crocheted...also using left-overs. The motifs were made simply randomly using knit and purl stitches...all quite simple and easy.

(by the way...the pics show the blanket-plaid on my bed..but it's been on the sofa, its place, for several days already)

green fall-winter

At a Bershka shop I saw again a kind of pattern I had already thought about using in a knitting project. The fact that this time the colours I saw were really appealling to me and that we're again in Autumn made me rethink the idea. And i looked for some quite-forgotten dark green yarn balls and skeins.

kanjiknit-hangulknit

Having started with Korean language and being back into improving my Japanese, the idea of applying them to my knitting-time activites (while watching the news on tv, basically), couldn’t be helped. However, no matter for how long I’ve been crocheting, I never felt like crocheting kanji...maybe because I didn’t feel it’d look nice, or at least as nice as it can look when being knitted.


The Korean word 돈 means money (read: don) (I meant to knit some kind of coin purse)...and the kanji 菫 is for the translation of the meaning of my name (read: sumire). Since they’re not that complicate, I drew the knitting chart myself. I also created a bigger knitting chart for some Korean saying...but I still don’t know where and when I’ll use it....

Finally I started crocheting something using some violet-blue degraded mohair yarn I bought in December, at Llanes Tosca (see previous posts).

Mustard-yellow

Finally.... The yellow scarf I started crocheting some time ago is finally ready to be used. Good timing since temperatures are lower again.

planning new projects...and knitting seriously

Yesterday, alter quite a long long time, I had the chance to do some yarn-shop hunting. I was unable to find a row counter here and I knew the best chance to get one could be possibly going again to Llanes El Globo (Pg. St. Joan, 34,-Eixample District- BCN), where I always manage to find all kinds of tools to crochet.

However, I tried first at a newly discovered yarn shop, downtown, Llanes Tosca (C/Ramalleres,17A,´-Ciutat Vella District- BCN). They had no row counters but there I could find really nice violet-greyish mohair yarn. I wonder if I’ll crochet or knit a vest or a bolero....

The huge crochet hook lying on top of the mohair yarn in the picture was a finding at Llanes El Globo. I had a 12-gauge hook....but some yarn or some ideas require that kind of odd crochet hooks. Ah...at Llanes Tosca there were 12 or 15-gauge knitting needles. That was too much for now and I guess it’s enough having up to number 9 (9mm) knitting needles.

Assymetric

Assymetric blanket...for a round and symetric winter. Round and warm winter...coming sooner, faster than we expect it to knock on the door...

light pink cotton spring

A new project....The plan is to crochet some kind of shrug, suitable for cooler summer days/nights. I went for some light pink cotton yarn...unusual colour for me.

testing a stitch pattern...

Several weeks ago I started what was supposed to become a bolero using a recently discovered stitch pattern. The project is now on stand by because I'm having some problems with the sleeves and I think I'll change the "concept-design". The fact is that I'm not going to forget about this stitch pattern since I really like it. I planned to use this stitch patter to crochet some kind of little bag...but it's being hard to choose the 2 colours....When it comes to choosing among colours I tend to have problems and it takes me a lot of time.
